Dominican Republic - There are so many things to do in the D.R. This trip was a short 5-day, 4-night trip. $240 Round Trip, only a personal Item. (Frontier Airlines) I stayed in the heart of Santo Domingo, Zona Colonial. It's one of the safer areas, and close to many tourist attractions. Hostal La Colonia by The Oxo House was $140 for 4 nights, right n the center of Zona Colonial.

Santo Domingo has something for everyone. You can go to the beaches of Boca Chica which are not far away. You could also stay there as an option if you prefer resorts, all-inclusive. Uber does work in Santo Domingo, but don't be surprised if you get a text from a driver that the price, that Uber quoted is not correct. They will try to charge you more, don't fall for it.
